Work starts on Adwick Leisure Centre improvement plan

Work has got underway this week on a £1.9m regeneration project to upgrade facilities at Adwick Leisure Centre in Doncaster.

Operator Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT) has obtained Doncaster Council funding with help from Alliance Leisure – which is project managing the delivery of the work – to give the 3,903sq m (42,012sq ft) centre a much-needed refurbishment.

Plans will see the gym area doubled, a new dedicated studio space created and a 10-pin Bowling Alley and children’s soft play area also installed.

DCLT and local building contractor Dexter Pollards will carry out the first floor fit-out of the gym and studios, with ISG installing the Mezz floor. Life Fitness will be providing the gym equipment.

“This is a major project for Adwick and one which we believe will improve use of the centre,” said DCLT chief executive Michael Hart.

“Our business plan is focused on increasing the size of our gym which includes building a mezzanine floor in the venue which would double the capacity of the current offering.

“The 10-pin bowling alley and soft play areas will mean that more families will be attracted to use the centre and our current gym members are excited by the plans to improve this area.”
