Relais & Chateau property opens new spa at lodge in Pennsylvania

The Lodge at Glendorn, a 1,500-acre Relais & Chateau property in Pennsylvania, US, has unveiled its new luxury spa – completing the site’s portfolio of activities which include fly fishing, shooting, cooking classes, horseback riding and golf.

The vision of interior designer Gil Walsh, Glendorn’s 1,024sq ft (95sq m) three-treatment room spa has rich wood flooring and twig furniture – drawing inspiration from the neighbouring Allegheny National Forest. The relaxation room features a locally-crafted fireplace, made of hand-painted tiles that depict a serene forest.

Spa products by Pevonia are infused with local ingredients for treatments at the spa. Supplementary skincare elements grown on-site include honey, blackberries, strawberries and lavender. As part of the experience, guests can forage for their own ingredients throughout the property and learn from the “spa chef” about how to blend them to create products – either to be used by their esthetician in a treatment or to be taken home.

This summer, the Wild Crafted treatments are either a berry antioxidant or lavender scrub with lemon balm and rosewater. Younger guests to the spa can receive treatments from the special “Bunny Patch” menu that includes a spa petite facial, manicure and pedicure.

The spa's hot stone massage uses stones from the property's Fuller Brook stream.

The log cabin-style property offers other leisure activities such as tennis, kayaking, paddle boating, hiking, croquet and – during the winter season – snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
