Virgin Hotels reveals New York City hotel designs

Virgin Hotels and owner/developer Lam Group have revealed building designs for their first project together in New York City, expected to open in 2017.

VOA Architecture has been appointed as architect and interior designer for the new structure, which includes a street-long high-end retail space, 457 guest rooms, multiple food and beverage outlets – including a rooftop bar – plus an outdoor pool and spa. The spa’s details have not been revealed at this time.

The property will break ground in early 2015 on the southeast corner of 30th Street and Broadway in the NoMad neighbourhood.

“The 39-storey hotel is a unique site and design opportunity for VOA, with a massing that expresses the hotel’s internal functions – including active rooftops as well as a staggered cantilevered facade that enhances room views on all four sides,” said VOA Architecture’s New York managing principal, Len Cerame. “Virgin Hotels New York’s distinctive look is sure to play a key role in the neighbourhood’s transformation process.”

Virgin Hotels CEO, Raul Leal, said: “The property will be a ground-up development designed to support business and leisure travelers’ needs and wants, while providing an active spot for locals.”

Virgin Hotels has a pipeline of properties in the works, including Virgin Hotels Chicago, which is expected to open on 15 January 2015. A hotel in Nashville will open in Q3 of 2016.

Lam Group is a privately held real estate investment company that has developed more than 22 hotels in New York in the past decade. It currently owns and operates 10 hotels with an additional seven in its current pipeline. In addition to hotels, Lam Group’s portfolio includes office, retail and residential properties.
