Cineworld to launch UK's first 4D cinema later this month

One of the UK’s largest cinema chains – Cineworld – has announced the opening of Britain’s first ever 4D cinema.

Using 4DX technology, the new cinema will be unveiled at Cineworld’s Milton Keynes multiplex on 30 January, with the new auditorium featuring high-tech motion seats. It will also feature special effects including wind, fog, lightning, bubbles, water, rain and various smells for both 2D and 3D formats, which will coincide with the on-screen action for a first of its kind in the UK.

Developed by the South Korea-based CJ Group, the 4DX technology can support more than 200 different movies. The Milton Keynes auditorium took five months to complete and can seat up to 140 people. The first film to be screened will be Kingsman: The Secret Service and thereafter, customers will be able to enjoy a variety of upcoming local hits and Hollywood blockbusters.

“At Cineworld, we are committed to differentiating ourselves – ensuring we are at the forefront of innovation and technology, while giving our customers the most enhanced cinematic experience there is,” said Mooky Greidinger, Cineworld CEO.

“This amazing new venture, in addition to our other offers, such as IMAX, Superscreen, VIP auditoriums, D-Box and now 4DX, allows our customer to choose not only which movie they wish to see, but also how they want to watch it.”
