Life Time Fitness collaborates with David Rockwell and Thomas Balsley for luxury New York fitness club

Health and fitness operator Life Time will open its first New York fitness club in Q1 2016 within Manhattan’s largest residential tower.

The club will take up a 70,000sq ft (6,500sq m) area inside the 71-storey Sky building, which is set to be completed in the next few months.

The building was designed by Goldstein Hill & West with interiors created by David Rockwell's studio, the Rockwell Group.

The Life Time Athletic at Sky will feature a multi-level gym, a Turkish-style Hammam and Lifespa, an indoor cycling studio, a full-size basketball court, yoga and pilates facilities, an indoor water club, two outdoor infinity pools, a health food cafe and a Skypark created by urban designer Thomas Balsley.

“Every inch of the club space exudes luxury and attention to detail, from the cloud pattern mosaic tiled outdoor pools to the LED ceiling lights in the water club, which are reminiscent of a water droplet ripple,” said Life Time and project developers the Moinian Group in a statement.

“No matter your goal – from losing weight to improving athletic performance or spending quality time with family and friends – we will strive to deliver the best people, programmes and places to help you get fit, feel great and live a healthy lifestyle.”

Construction on the Sky building, located on 42nd Street and 11th Avenue, began in 2013. The cost of the project has been reported locally as US$850m (€779.3m, £590.3m).
