Alterface secures US patent on dark ride shooting technology

Alterface Projects has been granted a US patent for its interactive shooting technology, as seen in dark ride experiences such as Justice League – Battle for Metropolis at Six Flags, Plants vs Zombies at Carowinds and Lego Kingdom Quest at Lego Discovery Centres across the US.

The patent protects Alterface’s ‘multi-user pointing apparatus and method’ and is recognition of the company’s tried and tested technology, joining two other patents – for the show control system Salto and for a gesture-tracking technology.

Alterface received a patent for its interactive shooting technology in Europe back in 2006.

“The multi-user pointing apparatus and method patent had been requested six years ago and has meanwhile been implemented in several interactive attractions,” said CEO Benoit Cornet.

“It now comes for us as cherry on the cake during a highly busy and successful year. While there are many ‘patent pending’ products in our industry, the ones that make it to the ‘real’ patent stage are scarce as it requires thorough innovative work. The interactive shooting and interactive show control technologies were firstly introduced by us and now lead the market. We are very proud of this as it proves we have a strong vision and understand what the market needs,” he said.
