24 Nov 2016 Huffington, Fox honoured by David Lynch Foundation for wellbeing work BY Jane Kitchen |
Arianna Huffington was honoured by the nonprofit David Lynch Foundation with the Global Health Award at a benefit gala earlier this month at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Huffington has launched "Thrive Global," a corporate and consumer well-being and productivity platform with the mission of "changing the way we work and live by ending the collective delusion that burnout is the price we must pay for success." Actor Michael J. Fox also received a Global Health Award for his work to transform the health and well-being of people worldwide. Since 2000, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research has provided more than US$600m to help find a cure for Parkinson's Disease. The David Lynch Foundation, started by the famed director in 2005, has a mission to eradicate trauma and toxic stress among at-risk populations through transcendental meditation, which Lynch, Fox and Huffington all practise. The benefit raised more than US$700,000 to bring transcendental meditation to children and adults who suffer from toxic stress and trauma. The event also featured students from the Bronx High School for Law and Community Service and the Brooklyn Urban Garden Charter School, who spoke about the healing impact of the meditation-based Quiet Time programme in their schools. "Meditation has given me security, relief, and tranquility,β said 8th grade student Reanna Suarez. βIt has given me the power to conquer and to control my anxiety β something I never thought I would have been able to achieve. Now, nothing has power over me. Not my past, not fear, and not guilt." Close Window |
