Council to decide on £24m leisure centre

Plans for a £24million leisure centre in Eastbourne look set to be approved at a council meeting in December.

Councillors at Eastbourne Borough Council will discuss and vote on the proposal, which includes a new building consisting of a gym, six-lane pool, a fun pool, learner pool, a sports hall, trampoline hall, a clip and climb wall and an artificial wave machine for surfers.

The new facility will replace the existing Sovereign Centre on the seafront. Building work is expected to begin in May 2017.

Council leader David Tutt said the the town needed a new facility as the 1970’s Sovereign Centre was ‘looking tired’.
