Beard to contour new spa at South Lodge to architect’s wish

Country house hotel South Lodge, based in Horsham, West Sussex, UK has started construction on an £11m ($13.6m; €13.1m) spa facility.

Designed by Felce & Guy Architects, the spa will have indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a 200sq m (2153sq ft) gym and a range of spa treatment rooms.

Felce & Guy have designed the spa to follow the natural contours of the hotel grounds and minimise its visual impact on the landscape.

Construction is scheduled to complete in autumn 2018 and will be undertaken by contractor Beard.

“A unique aspect of the project’s construction will be its sloped and curved living grass and wildlife roof which will help insulate the building, absorb rainwater and provide a wildlife habitat,” said Gareth Phillips, contracts manager for Beard. “The spa will also be powered by renewable green energy from biomass boilers.”

Earlier this year, it was announced that Horsham will be receiving a new leisure centre designed by GT3 Architects.
