New Swim Works centre to open in Leamington Spa

Joanne and Christian Wilson, the husband and wife team behind Little Splashers swim school in Warwickshire, are set to open a new Swim Works swim centre in Leamington Spa.

The Leamington Spa location will be the second under the Swim Works name. Located on the site of a former joinery, the new venue is close to the town centre and is in the heart of Little Splashers’ existing client base.

The centre, which will not be open for public leisure swims, will offer baby, preschool, after-school and adult swimming lessons, along with baby massage, pre- and post-natal, and adult therapy fitness classes.

Joanne Wilson has been operating her Little Splashers swim school for babies and preschoolers since 2006. Her husband Christian came on board in 2010, and in 2014 the team opened their own swimming centre, Swim Works, in Rugby, Warwickshire.

Rugby Swim Works teaches more than 600 swimmers per week, while the new Leamington Spa centre will have the capacity to teach more than 1,000 per week. In addition to the two centres, the Wilsons will continue to offer lessons at five pools throughout Warwickshire through their Little Splashers brand.

“We always dreamt of building a swim centre that catered for everyone,” said Joanne Wilson.

Joanne Wilson, a tutor for the Swimming Teachers Association, has also recently launched Aqua Sensory, a new programme for baby and preschool swim schools.

Designed in collaboration with occupational therapists, early years practitioners and psychologists, the programme provides babies and preschoolers with “a rich mixture of sensory exploration and early developmental opportunities.”

“In our busy world, we found that children's development was changing,” explained Joanne. “The water is the perfect place for a child-led programme that’s based upon discovery and play.”

Aqua Sensory combines traditional dry land activities like music, massage, singing, signing, discovery play and movement in the swimming pool, which is, Joanne explained, a multi-sensory environment itself.

The classes are designed to enhance children's emotional and motor skills, and assist parents to become attuned to their child's development, with parent fact sheets available after each lesson to facilitate continued progress.
