Six-hour, two-person London adventure announced by Punchdrunk

Immersive theatre production company Punchdrunk has announced an innovative new experience set to hit the city of London for just six weeks this autumn.

Punchdrunk, best known for its multi-layered interactive production of the Macbeth-inspired Sleep No More, which has been staged in New York and Shanghai, says the new experience, called Kabeiroi, is designed for two people who will go on a six-hour adventure across London.

The company describes Kabeiroi as “a lost play, re-imagined” and “inspired by the ancient Greek myth of the women of Lemnos”, based on the remaining fragments of Aeschylus’ lost play, which was written between 499 and
456BC. It’s directed by Punchdrunk founder Felix Barrett.

“In a break from the company’s recognised format of mask shows played in found spaces in front of big audiences, Kabeiroi will take place in multiple locations across London and audiences will experience the show in groups of just two,” said a press statement from the company. “Using what remains [of Aeschylus’ lost play] as a starting point, Punchdrunk will place audiences at the heart of the narrative over an extended six hour period.”

Tickets will be allocated at random following a ballot, which starts today (5th September) and ends on 10th September. Tickets are priced at £55 per person, and two people must participate.

According to Punchdrunk’s website, the event is only suitable for adults, and much of it will take place outdoors. The production will run every day except Mondays between 26th September to 5th November.

"Kabeiroi" may be a reference to the mysterious underworld deities of Greek mythology.
