Hilton seals deal to manage Waldorf Astoria island resort in the Maldives

Hospitality giant Hilton has announced an agreement with real estate firm Ithaafushi Investment to manage its new-built resort in the Maldives.

Spanning three islands on the South Male Atoll, the Waldorf Astoria Maldives will be the second hotel in the Maldives for Hilton and will join 10 other Waldorf Astoria properties which are already open, or currently under development in the Asia Pacific.

While few design details have been released, the architects behind the project are Highness Engineering and Consultancy, with design firm Stickman Tribe collaborating on the resort’s interiors, including ten dining outlets.

“Waldorf Astoria Maldives will set a new standard for Maldivian luxury, offering global travellers first class accommodations in a unique and inspirational environment,” said John Vanderslice, global head of luxury and lifestyle brands at Hilton.

“Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts continues to deliver on its mission to be the world’s fastest growing, most innovative luxury hotel brand, expanding its global footprint with landmark signings in iconic destinations.”

The Maldives is home to a host of glamorous recent and forthcoming leisure developments, including Kanuhura private retreat, designed by Inge Moore; the solar-powered Hurawalhi Island Resort; the 77-villa St Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort; and the world’s largest underwater restaurant.
