Jora Vision creates tropical paradise at Walibi Belgium

Design firm Jora Vision has been appointed to redesign the Aqualibi waterpark at the Walibi Belgium resort.

The redesign forms part of a massive expansion plan that will see the resort undergoing a major refurbishment following an investment of €100m (£87.8m, $111.7m).

The expansion, which began in September and is set to be completed by spring 2018, will include new attractions and refurbishments across the resort, with a reported 75 per cent of the park undergoing extensive renovations. It will also include the addition of a specially designed zone for younger children in Aqualibi.

Jora Vision collaborated with park operator Compagnie des Alpes on the redesign of Aqualibi, which features a Caribbean theme, designed to transform the park into a tropical paradise with colourful frontage, attention-grabbing props, and greenery.

The project was headed up by Jora Vision designer Vincent Jansen, he says: “We wanted people to feel relaxed and welcome. We designed a Caribbean town made up of different buildings which look improvised, well-worn and sun-bleached. Furniture is intentionally multi-coloured and mismatched. This gives guests a sense of place, and makes the space feel more intimate.”

Jora Vision also repurposed an existing rock formation to create an eye catching centrepiece in the middle of the pool area.

Jansen says: “This centrepiece is visible throughout the pool area but lacks something exciting. In our concept, a fishing boat has stranded on top of it during a storm. This should function as a fun, memorable visual anchor.”
