The Ritz Carlton, Langkawi launches local-inspired treatment menu

The Ritz Carlton, Langkawi has launched a spa treatment menu inspired by local traditions and ceremonies that have been practiced on the island for thousands of years.

The spa, which opened in the latter half of last year, is located in floating pods, resembling intricately woven fishing traps used by local fishermen, designed to encourage guests to reconnect with nature and tune into the soothing energy of the sea. It features a lavish thermal suite with a steam room, sauna, ice fountain, state-of-the-art experience showers, and male and female vitality pools.

Therapists at the spa have been trained to perform traditional healing rituals using ancient techniques and indigenous materials, including rich marine mud from the Andaman Sea, and heated volcanic rocks from the Machinchang formation.

The treatments include the Mystical Ocean and Earth Ritual, and the Mandi Bunga Inspired Ritual.

Mystical Ocean and Earth is a hot stone massage and marine mud wrap that uses traditional techniques, indigenous essential oils and heated stones to release tension, soothe aching muscles and induce a deep state of relaxation.

Mandi Bunga is billed as ‘a restorative full-body experience,’ and is designed to dispel ‘bad’ energy. It was inspired by traditional Mandi Bunga bathing, which originated in Malay royal houses. The treatment combines rhythmic massage with traditional herbs and therapeutic flowers to calm and relax. Warmed aromatic oils are poured onto the body, while long, calming movements are used to soothe aching muscles and rebalance the mind and body.
