Colorado entrepreneur bids to open cannabis spa

An application for the first legal cannabis spa in the US has been made in Denver, Colorado, where the non-medicinal use of marijuana was legalised for recreational purposes in 2012.

Entrepreneur Cindy Sovine hopes to open the ‘Utopia All Natural Wellness Spa and Lounge', according to local media reports, which will not sell marijuana but will offer ‘consumption areas’ as well as a THC-infused massage.

The spa also plans to offer acupuncture, meditation, yoga and a full line of hemp products and cosmetics.

Denver’s CBS News reports that Sovine got the idea for the spa when her father battled cancer and she saw a need for a social outlet where other medical marijuana patients, who are often isolated from each other, could connect and share stories.

“It’s a way of being able to help patients access treatment services,” she told CBS News. “But also access each other and share what they are using and how it makes them feel.”
