HBA designs hotel for China International Practical Exhibition of Architecture

Hirsch Bedner Associates has designed a hotel for the China International Practical Exhibition of Architecture (CIPEA) – one of 22 buildings created for the event.

Located in the city of Nanjing, Artyzen Sifang will have leisure functions such as sauna rooms, spring massage rooms, a pub and a reading room.

New York-based architect Steven Holl, artist Ai Weiwei, Chinese Pritzker prize winner Wang Shu and UK architect Sir David Adjaye also designed buildings for CIPEA.

HBA partner David T’Kint was behind the interiors for the hotel, which sits in a building designed by Italian architectural practice Sottsass Associati.

HBA’s interiors ethos was to marry them to Sottsass’ exterior architecture. The walls are divided in an irregular grid line of shapes and are clad in warm white stucco. The floors are adorned by woollen rugs, which have been designed as geometrical forms.

There are 22 rooms in total, ranging from 463 square feet to 850 square feet, all equipped with walk-in wardrobes, five fitting bathrooms with freestanding bathtubs. There will also be mahjong sets and table tennis in the rooms.

The centre will also house a 10,764sq ft (1000sq m) wellness centre, replete with indoor pool, fitness studio and spa suites.

The complex will be managed by Artyzen Hospitality Group and will open in October 2018.
