Atlanta Hawks State Farm arena nears completion

Construction is almost complete on the Atlanta Hawks’ highly anticipated State Farm arena.

The US$192.5m (€166.7m, £145.6m) renovation – said to be the second largest in the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) history – will see the sports centre gain the league’s first-ever courtside bar.

Other innovative amenities intended to enhance fans’ in-game experiences include a four-chair barbershop – strategically built to overlook the basketball court – Top Golf Swing suites, luxury cabanas, and a Zack Brown-branded Social Club restaurant.

HOK Architects, which has been attached to the project since 2016, oversaw the venue’s interior design.

Erstwhile named the Philips Arena, the project was officially redubbed in August after the Hawks inked a US$200m (€173.2m, £151.6m) deal with State Farm.

The new attraction will provide seating for 17,500 people and accommodate upwards of 1.6 million guests annually.

"It'll be a place where a lifetime of memories are made," said Steve Koonin, CEO of the Hawks.

The official opening of the arena is planned for 20 October and will coincide with the team’s 50th year anniversary.
