Italy’s Adriatic coast to get major thermal and medical spa

Spa consultancy bbspa is working on a large spa and therme for a wellness hotel in the Italian coastal town of Riccione.

The 6,000sq m spa will serve two hotels on the Adriatic coast – a wellness hotel and a thermal medical hotel – each with 120 bedrooms.

Several indoor and outdoor pools with hydrotherapy routes will be included, as well as heat and steam experiences to include different types of saunas and hammams using thermal water.

Outside, a large bio pool, thermal pools with different temperatures, a wellness trail, a thermal mud area, a water massage area, several relaxation areas and a solarium are planned.

There will also be a treatment area with individual cabins along with couples rooms and spa suites, as well as a relaxation area with food and beverage service.

A medical spa offering check-ups and medical treatment cabins is also on offer.

Additionally, a 600sq m luxury spa will be located on the top floor of the hotel, and will include several spa suites, and indoor/outdoor relaxation area and a panoramic outdoor pool.

A 4,000sq m terme will include medical diagnostics as well as individual thermal treatments and treatments with thermal mud, an area dedicated to thermal rehabilitation, and treatments for inhalations and aerosols.

Bbspa has provided consulting and engineering services, and is working alongside architecture firm Polistudio for the project, which is due to begin construction work in early 2020, with an opening date of February 2022.

“This is a unique project in the glamourous world of Riccione,” said Régis Boudon-Doris, founder and CEO of bbspa&partners. “The project hopes to de-season the tourist offering in Riccione and this part of the Romagna coast, and will create a magnificent gateway to the south of the city.”
