Philippe Renaud designs eclectic, art-inspired hotel in Paris

The Hôtel de Berri, a former townhouse newly outfitted by French art director and interior designer Philippe Renaud, has opened in Paris.

The upscale hotel – once the abode of the creme de la creme of the city's Belle Epoque and Beaux Arts-periods – is located a stone’s throw from the Champs Elysées and features 75 rooms and 35 suites.

Other amenities include the Le Schiap restaurant, the Le Bizaz cocktail bar, two spa treatment rooms, a fitness suite, and a 3,000 sq m landscaped garden.

The Hôtel de Berri is also furnished with an eclectic mix of neoclassical sculptures – some of which "originate from the castings workshop at the Louvre".

According to hospitality company Marriott International, which is operating the site under its Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts brand, the hotel’s vibrant interiors showcase the artwork of and take inspiration from fashion designers and artists, such as Coco Chanel, Elsa Schiaparelli, Giacometti, Jean-Michel Frank, and Madeleine Castaing.

In a statement, Philippe Renaud said: "From surfaces to colours and textures, the curious and quirky design elements of Hôtel de Berri are a deliberate step away from traditional hotel design."
