Plans for £20m Bingham leisure centre approved

Plans have been approved for a £20m leisure centre in Bingham, Nottinghamshire.

Rushcliffe Borough Council gave the green light to proposals for a new swimming pool and health club with exercise studios to be built on land owned by the local authority in the town.

The plans for the facility, which also include community hall and serviced offices, will now move on to the next stage, which will result in more detailed designs being drawn up.

It is expected that a planning application will be filed by the end of the year. The centre is scheduled to open in 2022.

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s deputy leader, Debbie Mason, said the project could create up to 90 new jobs and transform the area's leisure provision.

“The new centre will result in a change in the quality of leisure provision available for residents in Bingham," she said.

“The plans show a potentially excellent community facility that would promote healthier lifestyles and complement the growth of the town in the years to come."
