23 Apr 2019 Heatherwick Studio lift curtain on their first residential project in Asia BY Andrew Manns |
London-based architecture firm Heatherwick Studio have unveiled details for "Eden", a 20-storey high-rise and the architects' first residential project in Asia. Situated in Singapore's upscale 10 Orchard Road neighbourhood and comprised of concrete shaped to resemble spinal plates, Eden features 20 four-bedroom apartments, all of which boast foliaged balconies. "We wanted to create something distinct for Singapore to contrast a skyline filled with angular steel and glass towers," said Thomas Heatherwick, principal and founder at Heatherwick Studio. He added: "Our design recreates the verdant garden access once ubiquitous in the city's homes, extending the landscape of Singapore from ground level through the building via hanging gardens. "This is truly a home in a garden where residents can enjoy an unparalleled lifestyle.” The project, which is being developed by Swire Properties, is also said to "break away from tradition" by foregoing a box floor plate. Eden is anticipated to be completed later this year. Close Window |
