Perrot & Richard set to revive century-old concert hall in Lyon

The city of Lyon has selected French design firm Perrot & Richard Architectes to renovate the Salle Rameau, a 100-year-old concert hall in Lyon that once hosted performances by the likes of Louis Armstrong and Ray Ventura.

French real estate firm Companie de Phalsbourg will lead the €14.3m (US$16m, £12.3m) overhaul, which will see the Art Nouveau building's dilapidated facilities converted into an 840-capacity theatre, a rooftop bar, a restaurant, a shopping area, and a select number of living spaces.

Other members of the project team include heritage architect Cécile Rémond, who will advise on the restoration of the site's carpentry, mosaic facade, and ironwork; and dUCKS scéno, who will oversee the construction of the on-site auditorium.

Groundbreaking is scheduled to take place in 2020, with an anticipated completion date of 2021.

Once open, the site will host 240 performances per year and serve as the official home of the Lyon Chamber Orchestra.
