HOK and Snow Kreilich Architects reveal design concept for 25,000-seat stadium in St Louis

American design firms HOK and Snow Kreilich Architects have unveiled their design plan for the "MLS4TheLou" – a Major League Soccer (MLS) stadium proposed for St Louis, Missouri.

Set to serve as the home of the as-yet-unnamed St Louis MLS soccer club, the new sports facility will feature a translucent ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) canopy and host up to 23 games during its inaugural year.

The building’s surrounding campus will also comprise restaurants, retail outlets, and pop-up spaces.

The news follows the recent announcement by the MLS that it would expand to 30 teams.

The organisation, which is considered the "first division professional soccer league in the world", currently comprises 24 clubs.

"Our stadium will be more than a sports venue," said the MLS4TheLou ownership group in a description of the project.

They added: "It will be a reflection of our city’s rich history and a look forward into our future. Our mission is nothing short of creating architecture, green spaces, and gathering places that inspire our city and our fans."

The stadium is tentatively slated for completion in 2022.
