26 Jun 2019 Piscina & Wellness Barcelona announces competition to build seaside aquatic centre BY Andrew Manns |
Piscina & Wellness Barcelona (PWB) has launched an international contest for architecture students to conceptualise a new aquatic centre. According to the company, the future leisure facility will be designed for public bathing and will occupy a tract of land on Barcelona’s waterfront, between “Drassanes Quay and the Rambla del Mar of the Port Vell”. “The space includes a large area of water, thus providing the possibility of even imagining a swimming pool floating on the surface of the sea,” explained PWB. Co-organised by Fira de Barcelona and the Spanish Association of Swimming Pool Sector Professionals, the contest is the second iteration of a 2017 call for tenders, which saw students pitch ideas for a pedestrian attraction near the city’s Montjuïc fountains. Ramiro Dino Della Bianca from the National University of Córdoba in Argentina won the contest with his entry “The Serenity of Chaos” – a circular walking path with various water features. This year's proposals – set to be evaluated by Fluidra, the competition’s sponsor, and the Port of Barcelona – will be accepted until 13 September. Winners will be announced during the PWB conference on 15 October. Close Window |
