Commonwealth Games Federation reveals second phase of strategic plan

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has published its Transformation 2022 Refresh document – the second phase of its strategic plan for 2015 to 2022.

Covering the period from 2019 to 2022, the plan is the result of detailed member consultation and commits the movement to "deliver inspirational sporting moments, nurturing a powerful sporting movement and activating transformational partnership".

It also outlines a new strategic priority for CGF – titled ‘Realise Collective Impact’ – which will see the organisation focus its efforts on achieving social change through sport.

Under the new banner, CGF has identified four key areas it will concentrate on – empowering and equipping athletes as agents of change and advocates for integrity; providing support and opportunities for individual Commonwealth Games Associations; contributing to truth, reconciliation and relief programmes and strengthening the contribution of sport in Commonwealth cities.

“The Transformation 2022 Refresh will ensure the Commonwealth Sports Movement is in the best possible position to capitalise on the opportunities and mitigate possible risks that lie ahead in a rapidly changing world," said CGF chief executive David Grevemberg.

"It's an important time to galvanise and drive the positive impact of sport on society which is why we have updated and launched an exciting new Commonwealth Sport Brand to keep pace with our ambition.

"This means we aren't just unveiling a new logo and emblem but actually linking our narrative, positioning and meaning. It is about putting the emphasis back on our vision, our values and our athletes."
