Laura Krohn named director of spa & wellness at La Cantera Resort

Loma de Vida at La Cantera Resort and Spa in San Antonio, Texas, has named Laura Krohn as director of spa and wellness.

Loma de Vida Spa & Wellness (Hill of Life), is a 25,000sq ft (2,322sq m) indoor/outdoor secluded wellness sanctuary overlooking the fairways and wooded bluffs of La Cantera Resort & Spa.

Loma de Vida first opened in 2016 as part of a multi-million-dollar transformation of the 498-guestroom resort, when Blu Spas acted as the spa and fitness design and planning consultants.

The spa offers holistic, meditative and restorative treatments that blend indigenous Texas elements with European influences.

Krohn oversees a staff of 80 at Loma de Vida, who perform signature services in 15 treatment rooms, including two couples suites and two Sky Lofts – floating treatment spaces in the hill country foliage with a Cowboy Soaking Tub and outdoor shower.

With more than 20 years dedicated to the field of spa and wellness, Krohn, brings with her an understanding of the profound difference that spa professionals can make in their clients’ lives, the company said.

Her extensive experience leading – and in some cases, launching – world-class spa operations across the globe includes properties in Beijing, China (Mandarin Oriental); Big Sur, California (The Spa at Ventana); at Silicon Valley’s primary venture capital corridor (Sense Spa at Rosewood Sand Hill), Maui, Hawaii (Fairmont Kai Lani); St Regis, California (Reméde Spa), and in Phuket, Thailand as regional operations director overseeing seven locations, including Four Seasons Bangkok.

Krohn’s early career success in hospitality food & beverage preceded her studies at San Jose State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in nutrition science and her Master of Public Health.

Her subsequent experience as a licensed massage therapist, personal trainer, nutritionist, and public health manager uniquely qualified her to lead several spas across the globe as she combined her scientific knowledge of the foundations of wellness practices with her awareness of the role of care-giver service delivery.

Over the years, Krohn has also succeeded in educator and consultant roles with both established and up-and-coming wellness brands and resorts. Krohn also served as a group therapeutic leader in an acute mental health and substance abuse disorder level I detox hospital and is licensed in residential care for the elderly in the state of California.
