'Social fitness' app Bim launches – offers live home workout sessions with up to 20 people

A new at-home fitness app will enable friends, communities, and coaches to remotely work out together using live video links.

Looking to market itself as a 'social fitness' app, Bim combines home exercise sessions with real-time multi-user video for up to 20 participants.

The idea is to create an experience that recreates the social setting of physical gym classes – with the additional customisation benefits offered by a digital platform.

Users can select from hundreds of existing training options, or create their own from 160 customisable workouts.

Once a session has been selected, users can schedule the workout with a custom group of friends and then exercise together with all participants appearing in real-time via multi-user video.

Personal trainers, instructors and coaches can also create groups and provide live video instruction.

"Users can select the train together mode or compete against their friends, as well create their own customised exercise routines and schedule training sessions in advance," Bim said in a statement.

Bim is the latest fitness app that looks to combine fitness with a social networking and community aspect.

These include TeamUp, which launched in March and combines a digital exercise offering with online dating features.
