Places Leisure opens £22m Camberley leisure centre with extensive health and wellness facilities

Places Leisure has opened the doors to its new £22m leisure centre in Camberley following an 18-month construction project.

Facilities at the centre include a 160-station gym floor, a fully-immersive group cycling studio, three group exercise studios and a climate-controlled hot yoga studio.

In addition to two swimming pools – a six-lane, 25m pool and a 20m training pool with moveable floor – the centre's wet areas include a salt room, sauna, steamrooms and a relaxation area with heated beds and loungers.

There is also a large multi-tier soft play, a climbing wall, an eight-court sports hall, a Costa Coffee café with large seating area and a free, multi-storey car park.

Places Leisure was awarded the 25-year design, build, operate and maintain contract for the new centre – along with its construction partner Pellikaan and architects Roberts Limbrick – in 2019. Work started in December that same year.

The centre is owned by Surrey Heath Borough Council (SHBC).

Alan McClafferty, SHBC council leader, said: "This is a very impressive building and will provide our community with a wonderful new leisure facility to enjoy with family and friends.

"I'm really pleased with the quality of the build and the number of facilities it will provide.”

Martin Anderson, capital projects director at Places Leisure, said: "This is a fantastic new hub for the local community and will provide Camberley with a brand new leisure destination that offers a range of exciting new features and activities.

“Together with the Council and our partners we are looking forward to showcasing all that it has to offer as we work towards our social mission of creating more active places and healthy people.”
