Bulgari to expand portfolio with new hillside resort and signature spa in Los Angeles

Premium hotel brand Bulgari Hotels & Resorts has signed plans to launch a new luxury resort in Los Angeles, scheduled for 2025.

An agreement has been signed with owner and developer Gary Safady, making Bulgari Resort Los Angeles the second Bulgari property in the US, following the opening of a Miami property in 2024.

Nestled amid the Santa Monica Mountains – less than five miles from Rodeo Drive, the property will be surrounded by 33 acres of a lush hillside park, natural wildlife and striking views.

Wellness will take centre-stage with plans including a signature 10,000sq ft (929sq m) Bulgari spa and state-of-the-art gym featuring Bulgari’s exclusive Workshop training method.

Drawing inspiration from nature, the contemporary architecture of the building will be curated by South African design firm Studio SAOTA, while Milanese architectural firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel – which has designed all other Bulgari Hotels projects – will bring Italian design to the building’s interiors.

The resort, formerly known as The Retreat, will be built in line with the most stringent environmental criteria certified by LEED.

Furthermore, to prioritise and protect the canyon’s natural habitats, hundreds of old-growth and native canopy trees are being preserved while approximately 1,000 additional mature trees will be planted and integrated with the terrain to provide shade and habitat for wildlife.

Ponds, dry riverbeds, and vegetated bioswales will also be implemented around the property to capture and filter stormwater and provide natural hydration for plants.

Bulgari CEO Jean-Christophe Babin comments: “We’re extremely happy and proud to announce the signing of definitive agreements to develop the new Bulgari Resort in Los Angeles, the capital of cinema and art which has always been a major Bulgari inspiration.

“The new Bulgari gem represents an extraordinary achievement for the brand to establish in such a key destination for the luxury industry.

“Following the signing of Bulgari Hotel Miami Beach, we’re excited to expand into the US market providing our remarkable Roman jeweller hospitality experience.”

Plans call for 58 rooms and suites and eight private residences, the signature Bulgari dining experience Il Ristorante - Niko Romito, a private cinema and an exclusive eight-seat sushi bar.

A portion of the hotel’s guest rooms and suites will be located in secluded bungalows studded across the eastern half of the property, adjacent to the property’s amenities.

The Resort’s eight residential properties will range in size from 12,000 - 48,000sq ft (1,115 - 4,459sq m), each with private land of at least one acre and as large as five.

Having grown from a collection of three locations in Milan, London and Bali, Bulgari Hotels & Resorts’ collection now includes properties in Beijing, Shanghai and Dubai.

The Bulgari Resort Los Angeles will become the twelfth property in the Bulgari Hotels & Resorts portfolio.

In addition to the anticipated opening in Los Angeles, five new Bulgari Hotels are due to open between 2021 and 2023 in Paris, Rome, Moscow, Miami and Tokyo.

Bulgari has been a part of the LVMH Group since 2011.
