Esse Skincare upgrades Probiotic Serum with fourth live probiotic species

Microbiome-focused Esse Skincare has upgraded its Probiotic Serum formula with a fourth live probiotic species.

The new species, Bacillus coagulans, is said to enhance the formula’s ability to improve hydration, strengthen skin barrier function and regulate inflammation.

Clinical trials saw improvements in 28 days in levels of hydration, firmness, elasticity, wrinkle depth and smoothness.

Kyle Groenewald, head of research and development at Esse Microbiome Laboratory, told Spa Business: “As pioneers in live probiotic skincare, our research never stands still. We’re constantly exploring the most beneficial probiotic species for skin health and ageing. The enhanced Probiotic Serum combines four live species selected for their ability to support the microbiome, strengthen skin resilience and deliver measurable results.”

The three other bacterial species in the formula are Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Lactobacillus acidophilus. The serum also uses a water-free, preservative-free lipid matrix to maintain microbial viability until application. This allows the probiotics to activate on contact with the skin.

The combination of live probiotics addresses the root causes of skin ageing, which the company says are driven by chronic inflammation, microbiome imbalance and barrier dysfunction. The serum is said to support beneficial microbes, regulate immune signalling and increase barrier resilience.

The 15ml bottle format, which is available with a refill option, has been given a packaging upgrade to reduce the brand’s environmental impact.
