Intamin group acquires Simworx out of administration

The Intamin group has expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of UK immersive attractions specialist Simworx, securing the future of one of the industry's developers of media-based attractions.

Simworx entered administration on 12 June before its business was acquired by Simworx Attractions Limited, a company under common ownership with Liechtenstein-based Intamin Amusement Rides. The transaction transferred all 28 employees to the new business and allows operations to continue from the company's headquarters in the UK.

The annual turnover of the Group in 2024 and 2025 was approximately £7.5m and £4.6m respectively, with pre-taxation losses being £1.5m in 2024 and £2.7m in 2025. The administration of the company – SVL Realisations 2026 Ltd – is being carried out by BGT Begbies Traynor. The amount of debt and the creditors have not yet been published.

Founded in 2005, Simworx has delivered 130 installations worldwide and developed a portfolio of immersive attractions dynamic motion simulators and 4D theatres. Its clients span theme parks, museums, zoos, aquariums and visitor attractions.

Under the new ownership structure, Simworx Attractions has acquired the business's assets, product range, intellectual property, trademarks, patents and engineering, sales and support teams. Chief executive Terry Monkton will remain in post and the company will continue trading from its existing UK base.

Monkton said: "I have long admired Intamin and have had the pleasure of collaborating with the team on a number of projects in the past. Their commitment to delivering outstanding ride systems, continuous product innovation and their extensive experience is very well known within the industry."

The acquisition brings Simworx into closer collaboration with ETF Ride Systems, another company operating under the same ownership as Intamin.

Peter Kerstjens, CEO of ETF Ride Systems, said: "We welcome the opportunity to work alongside Simworx. It brings a strong reputation, proven products and deep experience in immersive media-based attractions."

He said the companies would collaborate on both track-bound and trackless dark rides, share technical expertise and jointly develop new ride technologies and concepts.

The sale followed an accelerated mergers and acquisitions process. Gareth Prince, partner at BTG Begbies Traynor, said Simworx had maintained a strong order pipeline but historical and working capital issues had created cashflow challenges that required a 'restructuring'.
