Blue Lagoon spa opens

Icelandic spa company Blue Lagoon has opened a joint venture spa and fitness centre in Glæsibær, Reykjavík, and has revealed further plans to open a series of city spas on an international basis.

The 35,520sq ft (3,300sq m) Glæsibær centre will be operated in partnership with the Hreyfing group and carry Blue Lagoon products.

The new building was designed by Teiknistofan á Ó_instorgi while VA Arkitects was responsible for the spa’s interiors.

The Blue Lagoon itself is one of Iceland’s most popular health tourist attractions and is surrounded by a lava field formed in 1226.
