09 May 2008 Darwen Leisure Centre gets the green light BY Caroline Wilkinson |
Plans for a new £12.7m leisure centre in Darwen, Lancashire, have been approved by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. The centre will be built on the existing site of the old Darwen Leisure Centre – which has now been demolished. The centre will boast an eight-lane, 25m competition pool with moveable floor and spectator area, a learners pool, health suite, 80-station fitness suite, two activity rooms, a sports hall and café. Sport England is contributing £400,000 to the project to fund the moveable floor, while the council make up the rest. The council is due to confirm the chosen construction firm within the next few weeks, and is expecting the site to be open by the end of 2009. Close Window |
