Cosmetic injection warning for vacations

The Physicians Coalition for Injectable Safety (PCIS) has issued a global warning about the dangers of accepting any cosmetic injection or procedure from unfamiliar physicians during a holiday, cruise or spa encounter.

The coalition has published a number of questions consumers should ask before considering any cosmetic procedure, to fully examine the doctor, the injectable brand being used and their own safety.

Those on a cruise in international waters are warned to be extra cautious, as there may be no governing body – and therefore no agency – to which adverse and potentially permanent events can be reported.

Coalition leader Ira D Papel said: “Whether on vacation or at home, patients must enquire specifically about a physician’s board certification and licence status, and their experience specifically with the treatment.”

The US-based PCIS is an alliance of speciality physician organisations that includes the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Details: injectablesafety.org
