26 Aug 2008 Rebuild plans for Tenby cinema BY Pete Hayman |
A planning application to demolish and redevelop a cinema in Tenby has been submitted to Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority (PCNPA). The owners of the listed building are looking to replace the town's Royal Playhouse Cinema with a new cinema with leisure facilities, although no firm details were available at present. A spokesperson for C2J Architects, which is handling the development, said that proposals for the new site were currently under discussion with planners. PCNPA said that, with regards to the initial application for the demolition of the cinema, any plans for the demolition of a listed building will face stringent tests. A spokesperson for the authority said: "Rigorous tests must be applied to any proposal for the demolition of a listed building and the authority has requested further information from the applicant before officers are able to consider this application. “If the Authority recommends the demolition of any listed building, that recommendation must be endorsed by Cadw before approval can be given."
