Spanish health club chain, DiR Fitness, has been awarded for its continued efforts to provide a female-friendly fitness experience.

The International Working Women Association gave DiR the Conciliating Family and Professional Life award for its efforts to employ women across the company.

Olivia Fontela, spokesperson, said: “We have 670 employees, of which 59 per cent are women. What really makes us special, however, is the fact that women enjoy an 81 per cent majority on the company board of directors, while all our clubs are run by female managers.”

The Barcelona-based company’s chief executive, Ramon Canela, was also named the CEO of the Year by BRAFA, a sports association that promotes the inclusion of sport in education.

Canela received the award as a result of involving DiR in a number of community projects, charity events and research projects. Details: www.dirfitness.es or brafa.org
