SpaFinder releases State of Spa Travel survey
BY Sarah Todd

Global spa resource SpaFinder has revealed the results of its latest State of Spa Travel survey.

A total of 370 travel agents completed the annual survey during June and July this year. Although the majority of respondents were North-American based travel representatives, global travel agents were also included.

According to the 2008 results, spa travel bookings in 2007 increased for more than half – 58 per cent – of respondents and the same amount expect there to be a growth in bookings over 2007. A further 29 per cent expected bookings to remain steady while only 13 per cent reported a decline.

The study is intended to illuminate trends in spa travel, examining areas such as consumer adoption, pricing and demographics.

Speaking about the results, SpaFinder’s president, Susie Ellis, said: “Spa travel is increasingly a fundamental part of the wellness regime for many Americans and has evolved from its once narrow association with pampering, luxury class. While this is helping to keep spa travel strong, the industry has also responded wisely to these challenging times by offering more special deals.” Details: spafinder.com
