Berlin stadium opens after revamp

The Berlin Olympic stadium, which hosted the famous 1936 Olympic Games when Germany was still under the rule of Adolf Hitler, has completed a four-year, multi-million euro revamp.

Chosen to host the final of the 2006 Football World Cup, the stadium now has a capacity of 76,065 and renovation work has included the addition of a roof, floodlights, retail space inside the stadium and executive boxes.

The 242 euro (£160m) refurbishment took four years to complete and includes a museum at the building’s entrance. Details: www.olympiastadion-berlin.de
